Digital Desk: President Droupadi Murmu presented Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami with the prestigious Arjuna Award on Tuesday in recognition of his outstanding service to the game. Shami received the honor at Rashtrapati Bhavan after an outstanding 2023.
The pacer's name was suggested for the esteemed award by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. When Shami received his award nomination, he was overjoyed. "Winning this award is a dream come true; people pass away and this recognition is unattainable." It makes me really happy, and I'm proud of myself. Many people spend their entire life as just spectators, watching others gain these honors. Many people still have unfulfilled dreams, as Shami had stated to ANI on Monday in response to her nomination for the nation's second-largest sporting award.
Notably, the Indian President Murmu honoured several other stars too. She presented the Arjuna Award to young sensation Sheetal Devi and several other Indian stars of the Asian Games. The list features India's Asian Games heroes like Aditi Gopichand Swami, Sreeshankar Murali, Parul Chaudhary, Esha Singh and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar among others.

Mohammed Shami was one of the brightest stars in the Indian team during the ODI World Cup 2023. He wreaked havoc as oppositions found him a nightmare to deal with. The pace merchant picked up 24 wickets in just seven matches despite missing the initial four games of the tournament. He went on to break several records too and became India's all-time highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament.
