Digital Desk: India's young batting sensation, Ruturaj Gaikwad, is poised to make history in the fifth and final T20I match against Australia on Sunday, December 3, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Gaikwad is on the brink of surpassing Virat Kohli's record for the most runs scored by an Indian player in a bilateral T20I series.
Virat Kohli set the current record with a remarkable 231 runs during a five-match T20I series against England at home in 2021. However, Gaikwad has been in exceptional form during the ongoing Australia series, accumulating 213 runs in just four matches. The emerging star needs just 19 more runs to eclipse Kohli's record and become India's all-time leading run-scorer in a bilateral T20I series.
KL Rahul occupies the second spot on the list, having scored 224 runs in a bilateral series against New Zealand in 2020. With India already securing the series with a 3-1 lead, they aim to finish on a high note in Bengaluru.
The fourth T20I, held at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on December 1, saw a dominant performance from the Men in Blue. Despite Australian captain Matthew Wade's decision to bowl first, Suryakumar Yadav's side emerged victorious by 20 runs.
Rinku Singh showcased his power-hitting prowess by scoring 46 runs off 29 balls, contributing significantly to the Indian total. The visitors had a strong start, scoring 40 runs in just 3.1 overs, but fell prey to Axar Patel's exceptional bowling. Patel claimed figures of 3/16 in his four overs, steering India to victory and earning the Player of the Match award.
As cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the series finale, all eyes will be on Ruturaj Gaikwad as he aims to etch his name in the record books by surpassing Virat Kohli's T20I milestone.
