Digital Desk: After sweeping Sri Lanka, India will face New Zealand in a three-match One-Day International series beginning Wednesday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. While every game is important for India as it prepares for the ODI World Cup, the Hyderabad ODI might see opener Shubman Gill break the record set by Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan and Kohli are India's joint-fastest hitters to reach 1,000 runs in one-day internationals. It took Kohli and Dhawan 24 innings to accomplish this feat. Now Gill has a chance to break a record today. Gill needs 106 more runs to make it. Gill has 894 ODI runs in 18 outings.
Gill has played in 18 one-day internationals (ODIs), three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), and 13 test matches for Team India. In the 50-over format, the rising star has two centuries and five half-centuries for the Asian giants.
With Ishan Kishan in the side, it would be interesting to watch if he opens with captain Rohit Sharma or plays in the middle order.
Teams:
India: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan (wk), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, KS Bharat (wk), Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik.
New Zealand: Tom Latham (captain), Finn Allen, Doug Bracewell, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Lockie Ferguson, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Henry Shipley, Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner.
