Digital Desk: India star batsman Rishabh Pant, who narrowly escaped life-threatening injuries in a horrific car accident on December 30, has been admitted to a Mumbai hospital. According to reports, the southpaw had emergency surgery on one of his knee ligament injuries, which is why he was airlifted from Dehradun to Mumbai on January 4.
Reportedly, medical specialists at Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital believe that the ligament injury is similar to that suffered by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja last year. This practically means that the southpaw will be out for at least six months.
"Every player's body is unique, but after reviewing Rishabh Pant's report, our specialists say the ligament damage is similar to what Ravindra Jadeja experienced. According to the reports we received from Dehradun, Pant would require surgery as soon as possible. It appears that his recovery will take longer than four months," an official informed a news agency.
Ravindra Jadeja, India's finest all-rounder, suffered a similar ligament tear last year, keeping him out for much of the season. Due to his ongoing recovery, Jadeja was forced to withdraw from the Asia Cup 2022 and did not participate in the T20 World Cup 2022.
While the extent of Pant's tear is uncertain, the left-hander could miss the IPL as well as the next Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home in February-March. If everything goes according to plan, the left-hander will return in time for the 2023 Asia Cup.
The BCCI has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the seriousness of the injury. The wicketkeeper-batsman was on his way to see his mother in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, when his car hit a road divider early in the morning. The governing board has provided the cricketer financial help, including the expense of the air ambulance that transported him from Dehradun to Mumbai.
