Climate change activist disrupts French Open semi-final, ties herself to the net

Digital Desk: An activist ran onto the court and fastened herself to the net during the French Open semi-final between Casper Ruud and Marin Cilic.

According to the reports, the score was one set all, and Ruud was leading 4-1 in the third set when the protestor, later identified as a climate change activist, sprang from the Court Philippe Chatrier audience and stormed onto the court.

It is to be said that she attached herself to the net with metal wires and adhesive, ostensibly defying the French government's inaction on climate change.

The message on her T-shirt said, "We have 1028 days left."

Derniere Renovation, a climate change organization that has claimed responsibility for the protest, is thought to be affiliated with her.

"We are in 2022, and it is time to confront reality; the world to which politicians are taking us is a future in which Roland Garros will no longer be able to exist," the woman, identified on Derniere Renovation's website as 22-year-old Alizee, added.

She also explained the cause saying that "I went into the field today because I can no longer risk doing nothing in the face of the climate emergency."

Ruud won the match by 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 to become the first Norwegian male to reach a Grand Slam final, where he will face 13-time champion, Rafael Nadal.

According to the French Open organizers, the "environmental activist managed to climb onto Philippe-Chatrier court and connected herself to the net with metal wires and adhesive".

"Before they could remove her, the security staff needed to legally identify the objects she used to gain access to the court."

After the incident, the lady was handed over to the police.
