Gautam Singhania Super Car Club Garage fully restored Ravi Shastri's classic Audi 100, which he won in 1985 at the Benson and Hedges World C'ship.
Digital Desk: For former India coach Ravi Shastri, it's time for NOSTALGIA. Shastri received his fully customised Audi 100 premium vehicle on Friday. Yes, this is the same legendary car that Shastri won the Benson & Hedges World Championship in 1985.
Gautam Singhania of Super Automobile Club Garage (SCCG) refurbished the car.
Shastri decided to RESTORE his 37-year-old beloved possession despite the legendary car being in bad shape.
It took Shastri and SCCG almost 8 months to reassemble the automobile. On Friday, it was eventually handed over to Ravi Shastri by Singhania.
Champion of Champions by Shastri One of the most legendary moments in Indian athletic history is when a car wins. Shastri won the automobile, but the entire Indian squad and nation celebrated the victory.
Shastri revealed some of his most famous stories.
1- When Javed said, 'Tu Baar Baar udhar kya deke Raha hai?'
Pakistan legend Javed Miandad took a shot at Ravi during the final, claiming he would not win the Audi.
When India needed 15 to 20 runs to win, Ravi asked Javed, "Tu Baar Baar udhar kya deke Raha hai?" (Why are you looking there repeatedly?) "Gaadi ko dekh Raha hai?" (Can you tell me why you're staring at the car?) Tere ko nahi milne waali hai! (You will not receive it!)."
"That's when I took a good look at it and said to him, "Javed, meri taraf hi aa Rahi hai!" (It's only coming my way!)."
And the rest, as they say, is history, as Ravi had the keys in his hand within minutes.
2. Crowd of 10,000 people at the docking port
Winning the AUDI was one thing; bringing it back was quite another. Fortunately for Ravi, the then-Prime Minister of India granted him the privilege of bringing the car duty-free into India.
"At the docks, 8,000-10,000 people looked at it as it came out of the ship's container," he added. I refused to drive the car. After all, I was afraid of colliding with people because I wasn't entirely comfortable with that Audi.
"I had an Audi driver bring it home for me." People were honking from their bikes all the way, and it was quite a celebration, and I still don't know how it got to my house without a scratch."
Such incidents are rare nowadays, but attracting a crowd of around 10000 for a glimpse of AUDI was a clear indicator of how Ravi Shastri rose to fame.
3. Completing the life circle by taking a round the Audi with daughter Aleka
"The best part is that my daughter saw the car for the first time in her life," Ravi added. For the first time, she sat in it. I'll take her for a spin in it in the coming days. The circle of life would be complete in some ways."
Ravi's daughter Aleka would have loved to be a part of the AUDI journey, but her father's achievement at the MCG in 1985 remains one of the most iconic moments in Indian sports history.
The gold-coloured Audi is likely to be one of the most well-known prize assets when it comes to the prize.
