In the upcoming IPL 2022, veteran Indian cricketer Suresh Raina and former India head coach Ravi Shastri will take on a new role.
Digital Desk: Suresh Raina and Ravi Shastri will serve as commentators for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Suresh Raina will be playing in the cash-rich league for the first time after going unsold in the blockbuster auction held earlier this year in February.
Despite a couple of players withdrawing or being ruled out for various reasons, he has not been named a substitute by any of the teams.
On the other hand, Shastri will make his first appearance as a commentator since being named India's head coach in 2017.
Suresh Raina and Ravi Shastri will be part of the lucrative league's Hindi commentary crew.
Interestingly, this will be a new job for the latter, who spent his post-cricketing career mainly commenting on the English game.
"You are all aware that Raina will not be playing in the IPL this year, but we wanted to associate him with the competition in some way." He has a sizable fan base, and there's a reason he's dubbed "Mr. IPL." Shastri was a member of the Star Sports English commentary team.
"However, he didn't commentate after the Champions Trophy final in 2017 because he became India's head coach," an IPL insider conveyed.
Furthermore, it has been claimed that Ravi Shastri is receiving Hindi lessons from an expert on Zoom and has been practicing commentary ahead of the season. His return to commentary, albeit in a different language, will undoubtedly be refreshing for IPL 2022 viewers.
