Digital Desk: The basketball semi-final line-up for the 4th Meghalaya Games 2022 has been finalized, with the final four matches set to take place tomorrow at NEIGRIHMS Indoor Stadium.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma officially opened the 4th Meghalaya Games 2022 on Tuesday at an exciting-yet-intimate opening ceremony at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, here.
Sangma, who is also the Games' chief patron, congratulated the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA), which is hosting the event, which includes 19 disciplines and 2,500 athletes, in collaboration with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Several sports began today, including football, boxing, taekwondo, weightlifting, badminton, tennis, shooting, and archery.
West Khasi Hills, the defending champions in both the men's and women's events, advanced to the basketball semi-finals. The women's team will face Ri-Bhoi at 12:15 pm, while the men will face the same opponents at 2:45 pm.
West Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills will also meet in the semi-finals of both the women's and men's competitions, with the women's match beginning at 1:30 pm and the men's match beginning at 4 pm.
West Khasi Hills defeated South West Khasi Hills in the women's division, and Eastern West Khasi Hills defeated West Jaintia Hills in their respective pre-quarterfinals at Mawlai Madan Heh and SAI Centre. Both games ended 2-0.
The third game at Madan Heh was the first quarterfinal, in which East Jaintia Hills won 7-0 thanks to a hat-trick by Rushia Dkhar (33′, 50′, 58′).
Among the men's note results was East Khasi Hills' 13-1 victory over South Garo Hills in the pre-quarterfinals. The men's competition is for U-21 players, while the women's competition is for senior players.
Dorian Dean Nongrum won gold in the sub-junior boys below-42kg category in Madanrting, with Femi Rymbai taking first in the sub-junior boys below-36kg category and Marvisha Sohklet taking first in the sub-junior girls below-42kg event. Deputy Chief Whip Shri Pyniaid Sing Syiem was the chief guest at this evening's wushu events.
The gymnastics medals were presented to the young gymnasts by Meghalaya State Olympic Association Working President John F Kharshiing, Vice-President Matsiewdor War Nongbri, and other dignitaries at SAI Indoor Training Hall.
Several more events are scheduled for the following day, including athletics, cycling, karate, swimming, and table tennis.
