Digital Desk: Rohit Sharma played a captain's knock in India's 56-run win over the Netherlands in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Thursday in Sydney, Australia. With three huge hits in his inning, Sharma also overtook former teammate Yuvraj Singh to become India's top six-hitter at the tournament.
The India captain was asked what he would say to his good buddy and former teammate Yuvraj Singh after dethroning him as the greatest six-hitter. Rohit Sharma responded with a witty remark, "He won't be happy about it."
Yuvraj Singh, who hit six sixes in an over during the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007, held the mark for India until Sharma broke it on Thursday.
Sharma also became the T20 World Cup's second-highest six-hitter with his 39-ball 53 against the Netherlands. Only Chris Gayle of the West Indies has more sixes than him. While Sharma currently has 34 sixes, Gayle's record of 63 sixes is expected to stand for some time.
The India captain was overjoyed with the victory, which he described as a "near-perfect game" for India.
"When you're expected to win, the stakes are much higher. For us, it was a near-perfect game. We weren't in too much trouble at first because the wicket was slow and we couldn't play our shots immediately away," Sharma stated during the post-match presentation ceremony.

India won the match comfortably after scoring 179/2 in their 20 overs as Virat Kohli (62*), Suryakumar Yadav (51*) and Rohit Sharma (53) shined with the bat. A superb all-round bowling performance then restricted the Dutch to 123/9, giving India a 56-run victory and propelling the Men in Blue to the top of their Super 12 group at the T20 World Cup 2022.
