India qualified for the Asian Cup for the fifth time in its history and managed to qualify for back-to-back matches for the first time.
Digital Desk: The Indian football team reaped a good harvest from its outstanding Asian Cup qualification campaign with a two-place climb to 104th in the most recent FIFA world rankings on Thursday. The Blue Tigers are ranked just below New Zealand (103), who lost to Costa Rica 0-1 in the intercontinental play-off earlier this month and therefore missed out on the spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
However, India’s position among the members of the Asian Football Confederation remained constant at the 19th. When the Sunil Chhetri-led team won all three of its league games earlier this month to top group D and win a spot in the 24-team Finals to be held in 2023, they achieved their finest Asian Cup qualification campaign ever.

Iran maintained its top position among the AFC nations in the global rankings (23). Brazil secured the top three months after Belgium (2nd) lost the top rank. Argentina has risen one spot to third, knocking France (4th), who paid the price for four consecutive losses in the UEFA Nations League. The top 10 is completed by Denmark, England, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, and Portugal. On August 25, FIFA will release its most recent world rankings.
