Neeraj Chopra broke his own national record with an 89.30-meter throw at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2022

Neeraj Chopra finished second at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2022, breaking his own national record with a throw of 89.30m.

Digital Desk: Neeraj Chopra couldn't have hoped for a better way to return to competitive action for the first time since the Tokyo Olympics, setting a new National Record and personal best of 89.30m on Tuesday, June 14 at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2022, a Continental Tour event in Turku, Finland.

Neeraj Chopra broke his own National Record of 88.07m, set in March 2021. It was also the world's fifth-best throw of the season so far. After his success at the Tokyo Games, Neeraj set his sights on breaking the 90m barrier, and it is safe to say that the Indian athlete is on the right track.

With a throw of 86.92m, Neeraj began the Continental Tour event, which was also his first competitive tournament since the Tokyo Games, where he blew away the rest of the field to win the gold medal.

Neeraj broke the national record with his second throw. At the event in Finland, he made three reasonable attempts and finished with a throw of 85.85m.

The Paavo Nurmi Games, a gold event on the World Athletics Continental Tour, is one of the most important track and field competitions held outside of the Diamond League.

His Tuesday throw of 89.30m was better than his gold-medal winning throw of 87.58m at the Tokyo Olympics.

Neeraj Chopra will compete at the Kuortane Games in Finland before heading to the Diamond League Stockholm leg on June 30. He will then compete in the Athletics World Championships in Oregon from July 15 to 24, followed by the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, which begin on July 28.

Neeraj Chopra has relocated his training base to Finland, participating in a 28-day training camp with his coach, Klaus Bartonietz.
