Digital Desk: Nikhat Zareen, the incumbent world champion, and Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain both won in the selection trials here on Saturday, ensuring their places in the Indian team for the Commonwealth Games.
While Nikhat, a two-time Strandja Memorial gold medalist, blanked Haryana's Minakshi 7-0 in a unanimous decision, Lovlina defeated Railways Pooja by the same score.
Nitu (48kg) and Jasmine (60kg) were also on the qualifying list for the quadrennial event.
Nikhat seemed to be in possession during her fight, hitting solid blows while twirling around the ring.
Nitu, a two-time previous youth world champion, defeated 2019 silver medalist Manju Rani 5-2 in a close decision.
Haryana's boxer Nitu is having a great year. Earlier this year, she won gold at the Strandja Memorial competition.
In a fast-paced light-middleweight final, Jasmine, the bronze medalist at the Asian Youth Boxing Championships in 2021, outpunched Parveen Hooda, the bronze medalist at the World Championships in 2022.
This year, the CWG will be held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8.
Nitu (48kg), Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Jasmine (60kg), and Lovlina Borgohain (70Kg) made up the team to qualify for the selection trials.
