The India and Pakistan’s cricketing ties may once again be heading toward a complete breakdown
Digital Desk: Cricket relations between India and Pakistan have enduringly suffered from the enduring border tension that continues to affect the two nations. Millions of fans from both countries eagerly await every clash between the two sides, but politics has frequently cast a shadow over the sport. The development suggests that tensions between India and Pakistan about their cricket matches will lead to an eventual total severance of their cricketing ties.
Indian cricket players conducted their last bilateral tournament in Pakistan during 2005–2006. Following the 2008 Asia Cup tournament, the Indian team returned to Pakistan for another match. Security considerations prompted the government of India, working with the BCCI, to prohibit sending their cricket team to Pakistan.
Since then, India has only faced Pakistan in ICC tournaments—and even then, only at neutral venues. The Board of Control for Cricket in India, along with the Indian government, maintains its commitment to avoid participation in Pakistani cricket matches. New information shows that the BCCI might adopt a more radical approach to its policy.
The BCCI indicates it will cut off all cricket relations with Pakistan, including matches held under international governing bodies. India intends to make a formal request to the ICC so that Pakistan and India will no longer share tournament groups during ICC events.
Indian and Pakistani cricket teams conducted their last series during Pakistan's tour of India in 2012 - 2013. Since then, Pakistan’s attempt to organize a cricket match with India has failed to yield results.
Sports experts considered the Mumbai attacks to have ended any prospect for the permanent resumption of cricket matches between these nations. The attitude toward Pakistan has undergone a transformation since the previous meetings. The BCCI has shown clear determination to sever all cricketing relationships with Pakistan.
In the wake of the recent Pahalgam attack, the BCCI is reportedly considering severing all cricketing ties with Pakistan, including matches in ICC events. From now on, India may refuse to be placed in the same group as Pakistan in ICC tournaments, and is likely to make such a formal request to the ICC.
As things stand, fans may never again witness the electrifying spectacle of an India-Pakistan match. The situation is clearly moving in that direction.
