Desk: In the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2022, Team India's cautious
strategy of holding onto wickets until the final few overs and then pushing the
paddle for a massive score backfired as they suffered a humiliating 10-wicket
loss to Jos Buttler's England on Thursday (November 10). The Three Lions beat
the Men in Blue, who were chasing 169 runs, with ease to secure their place in the
T20 World Cup 2022 championship match against Pakistan. KL Rahul's early return
to the pavilion and the inability of both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to
maintain a high run rate in comparison to England's Jos Buttler and Alex Hales
contributed to India's poor start.
After Rohit Sharma left for 27 off 28 and
Kohli failed to complete his stint with a strike rate of above 150, it was
Hardik Pandya who led India to a challenging total of 168. He scored 63 off 33
balls. Suryakumar Yadav has been the only batsman with a strike-rate of above
150 who has been making it seem simple, and sadly it was not his day on
Thursday as he was removed for just 14 off 10 balls.
In the end,
England's risky aggressive strategy paid off, and both of their openers led
them to a victory over India in the World Cup quarterfinal by 10 wickets with
20 balls remaining. After England successfully completed their task, worries
about Team India's game plan and the future of veteran players like Virat
Kohli, Rohit Sharma, R Ashwin, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in T20 cricket for India's
coach Rahul Dravid were raised.
"It's too
soon to discuss it after the semi-final match, for us, these players have
delivered outstanding performances. We have a few years to think about it.
These players are all really talented. Now is not the time to discuss or
consider these issues. As we move forward and attempt to prepare for the
upcoming World Cup, we'll have enough time and opportunities to play enough
games "On the prospects of Kohli and company in T20 cricket for India,
Dravid stated.
Senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat
Kohli, and KL Rahul have chosen to rest, therefore Hardik Pandya will captain
Team India when they go to New Zealand for a white-ball series.
