ISRO set to sign MoU to identify Ram Setu and other archaeological sites

Digital Desk: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is all set to deal a pact with the Indian Council of Historical Research to assist them in identifying archaeological sites, particularly the Ram Setu, which has been a source of contention between India and Sri Lanka for years, and in establishing an ancient knowledge system.

ISRO Chief S Somanath in an interview with India Today stated that they were able to locate the dried-up route of the fabled river Saraswati using high-definition imaging and satellite photographs. 

"We can view Ramsetu, also known as Adams bridge, using satellite images, but determining whether it is man-made or natural will require experts from domains such as the Archaeological Survey of India and other such departments," Somanath explained.

The Ram Setu was built by Lord Rama and his army, according to the ancient Indian Sanskrit epic  Ramayana. As a result, it is historically and culturally significant. 

The ISRO chief further stated that people in India have known for thousands of years that the Sun is the centre of the solar system and that all planets rotate around it.

"Later, Arab travellers brought this information to Europe, and they learned about it during the Industrial Revolution when geniuses like Einstein and Newton worked on it. We were unable to grow or expand our expertise "He stated.
