No more Netflix password sharing in India, here’s how it will work
An email will be sent to the users who share their account outside their household, starting from today…

Digital desk: The world's largest streaming site, Netflix, has said that it will no longer allow password sharing in India. According to the company, each account should only be used by one household.

Starting today, an email will be sent to the users who share their account outside their household.

According to a statement from Netflix, “A Netflix account may only be used by a single household. Every member of that household has access to Netflix from anywhere, whether they are at home, traveling, or on vacation. They can also benefit from new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices."

The statement also further stated, "We are aware that our members have a wide variety of entertainment options. There is always something enjoyable to watch on Netflix, regardless of your taste, mood, or language, and that is why we continue to invest extensively in a wide selection of new movies and TV episodes.”

To boost its revenue in the second half of the year, the streaming app will start taking action against account sharing in India and other territories like Indonesia, Kenya, and Croatia from July 20, 2023.

Eyeing for a new horizon, Netflix is experimenting with a new approach, in India and other countries where paid sharing hasn't yet taken hold. If users wish to keep sharing their Netflix account with people they don't live with, they will have the option to pay an extra fee.

Netflix stated in a letter to shareholders that it will not provide the "extra member" option in these areas because several of them just reduced their pricing and the penetration is still quite low, giving the firm "plenty of runway without adding additional complexity."
