Digital Desk: Meta is facing complexities after its artificial intelligence (AI) bot was accused of citing bogus research publications. Meta has been forced to take its AI Bot, Galactica, offline as a result of user concerns.
According to sources, Meta created the bot after training it with 106 billion publically available tokens of scientific literature and data. Several people have mentioned examples of false research released by Galactica, which is a problem Meta didn't need after all the difficulties the company has faced in recent months.
Another concerning aspect of the AI Bot was that it created false studies but managed to attribute them to legitimate scholars.
Meta released the AI Bot earlier this month, and the company was compelled to remove it just a few days later. Yann LeCunn, AI Scientist at Meta, shared this tweet, implying that people may have misunderstood its entire aim.
