While live and aerial views have already been made available to developers, eco-friendly routing will be made available later this year.
Digital Desk: Google announced last week that it will be adding four new features to Google Maps. According to the company's blog, these updates will include features such as the addition of aerial views of over 250 landmarks throughout the work, improvements to live view and nearby search, and the addition of eco-friendly routing for delivery and ride-sharing companies.
Users will be able to select a neighbourhood and see the most popular spots thanks to updates to nearby search or the "neighbourhood vibe feature." These will be represented visually within the Google Maps app.
There will also be 250 photorealistic aerial views of global landmarks from around the world. The addition of an aerial view is part of Google's immersive view, which was announced earlier this year at its I/O event.
The immersive view will use predictive modelling to learn a location's historical trends to provide users with the information they may require to plan their visit around these landmarks. The updates to live view will include a search with a live view that will be used to find more information for areas around users. ATMs, coffee shops, grocery stores, and transit stations will all be listed. It will also include information such as business hours and how busy a location is at various times of the day.
In the coming months, Android and iOS users will be able to search with a live view in cities such as London, New York, San Francisco, Paris, and Tokyo. Google also announced the recent launch of its eco-friendly routing in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
According to the company's blog, eco-friendly routing assists users in selecting the most fuel-efficient routes by utilising data from the US Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the European Environment Agency.
This feature will also allow delivery and read-sharing service providers to measure fuel consumption and savings in single trips for a vehicle, as well as measure these metrics for their entire fields, according to the company.
Furthermore, a feature that will be available to developers later this year will allow them to select engine types to get more accurate energy efficiency estimates.
