Digital Desk: As the race to launch 5G services for millions of smartphone and internet users takes steam, Reliance Jio may launch its 5G services on Independence Day, August 15.
In a statement earlier this week, Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, said that the company intended to mark "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" with a pan-India 5G rollout.
"Jio is committed to supplying top-notch, inexpensive 5G and 5G-enabled services. We will provide services, platforms, and solutions that will accelerate India's digital transformation, especially in important areas like education, healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, and e-governance," he had said after taking the lead in the 5G spectrum auction, which included the pricy 700 MHz band.
With 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav,' Prime Minister Narendra Modi has revealed his goal of building a new Aatmanirbhar Bharat by 2022.
The initiative aims to recognize and honour the nation's 75 years of independence as well as its history of people, cultures, and achievements.
The official journey of "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" began on March 12 in 2021, beginning a 75-week countdown to our 75th anniversary of independence. It will conclude on August 15, when the pan-India 5G rollout may be announced.
The company stated, "Jio is completely prepared for 5G rollout in the shortest possible time due to its statewide fiber presence, all-IP network with no legacy infrastructure, indigenous 5G stack, and strong global collaborations throughout the technology ecosystem."
Jio claimed that the next wave of digital solutions will be made possible by its 5G network, accelerating India's AI-driven journey to a $5 trillion economy.
"Nowhere else in the world can compare to Jio's 4G rollout in terms of pace, scope, and societal impact. Now, Jio is poised to guide India's transition into the 5G era with greater ambition and tenacity," Akash Ambani said.
According to a Nomura report, the 700 MHz band might give Reliance Jio an edge in terms of network quality, particularly indoors, and this could exacerbate investors' concerns about further spectrum outlay for Bharti if R-Jo were able to offer meaningful differentiation in network quality (vs Bharti) with 5G on the 700 bands.
