Digital Desk: In northern Mexico on Sunday, police reported that 26 people had died in a catastrophic highway collision involving a passenger van and a freight truck.
Because of the massive amount of debris and the fire that destroyed the van and the goods trailer, prosecutors and police in the border state of Tamaulipas in the north reportedly stated that the death toll was only an initial estimate.
It is possible that the driver uncoupled the goods trailer and escaped because the cab that had been pulling it was not discovered at the location.
According to officials, the cause of the collision on a highway close to Ciudad Victoria, the state capital, was being looked into.
