Bangladesh Will Continue To Import Diesel from India

Digital Desk: Despite border tensions,  Bangladesh will continue to import diesel from India. The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) revealed that it has decided to import 13 lakh metric tonnes of diesel from Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) in 2025. This proposed deal,  which was signed at the BPC board meeting, will cost around  Bangladesh Taka 1,137 crore.

Currently, BPC requires 7.4 million metric tonnes of refined fuel oil per year, and out of it, 4.6 million tonnes is for diesel only. Some 80 percent of this diesel is imported directly and the rest is available from local refineries. NRL has been consistently importing and supplying refined oil in Bangladesh by train since January 2016.

Besides diesel, the interim government of Bangladesh has planned to import 50 thousand tons  of non-basmati parboiled rice from India to meet the local requirement. These steps show that Bangladeshi people continue to import Indian products even when they have some conflicts with one another.
