    Covid scare returns, China government imposes lockdown

    Digital Desk: Amid the rise in cases of covid-19 in the country, China government imposed a lockdown in the northern city of Xi’an, reports said.





    The preventive measures were taken just a week before the commencement of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

    However, the reports stated that it is not clear whether the spike in cases was because of the new variant Omicron or the Delta variant. There are seven Omicron cases reported in China so far. Four in the Southern centre of Guangzhou, two on the southern side of Changsha and one in the northern part of Tianjin.





    Rise in cases is also reported from several cities in the eastern province of Zhejiang.





    Earlier, Xi’an city experienced the hardest restrictions during the lockdown imposed on more than 11 million people around Wuhan City.





    Reportedly, Xi’an city recorded 63 cases of the virus on Thursday, taking the city’s tally to 211.
