Indian woman stabbed to death in London by Brazilian flatmate

Digital Desk: In Wembley, London, a 27-year-old woman from Hyderabad was stabbed to death by her Brazilian flatmate. Kontham Tejaswini, who had gone to London for further studies, was allegedly attacked at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at a residential home.

The primary suspect and another man have been apprehended by the Metropolitan Police. While Tejaswini died at the scene of the attack, the Metropolitan Police said a second lady, 28, was transported to a hospital with stab wounds that were subsequently determined to be non-life threatening. The incident occurred in Wembley's Neeld Crescent.

According to police in Hyderabad, the Brazilian accused "appears to have been" a drug addict who sought to extort money from Tejaswini and stabbed her when she refused. 

Tejaswini's cousin in Hyderabad, Vijay, said the suspect had moved into the shared housing where Tejaswini stayed with her pals less than a week ago. Tejaswini moved to London three years ago to pursue her Master's degree.

"The Brazilian man had just moved in a few days ago. "Tejaswini and he had barely spoken; we have no idea why he would attack her," Vijay explained. 

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement, "Two people, a 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder." The man is still being held in prison. "The woman has been released and no further action will be taken."

Another suspect, a 23-year-old guy, has been apprehended. According to PTI, the Metropolitan Police had previously issued an image of Brazilian national Keven Antonio Lourenco De Morais and asked the public for assistance in locating him.

"He was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody at a north London police station," the Met Police said, without naming him again because he can now only be named if prosecuted, according to the PTI.

Tejaswini had recently completed her Master of Science degree and had visited India approximately a month ago, according to V Satyanarayana, a senior police official in Hyderabad. Tejaswini's family lives in Hyderabad's Champapet, and her father works as an electrician and also owns agricultural property. 

"It was assumed that Tejaswini was looking for work."  "She was living in a shared house with two other girls, including Akhila, who also suffered stab wounds and another girl from West Bengal," Mr Satyanarayana explained.

"It appears that the accused was a drug addict who tried to extort money from Tejaswini." According to our research, he stabbed her when she refused. 

"This has been a fast-paced investigation, and I'd like to thank the public for responding to our request for information about this man." "He is now in custody," a Metropolitan Police officer in London, Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley, was quoted as saying.

"I recognise the significant concern this incident has caused in the community, and I'd like to reassure the public that a dedicated team of detectives is working to determine what happened (sic)," she added.
