Murdoch has four marriages and six children from his first three marriages.
Digital Desk: Rupert Murdoch, the billionaire media mogul, announced his engagement to his own tabloid newspaper, the New York Post, on Monday. The 92-year-old media mogul is engaged to Ann Lesley Smith (66), and he has stated that this will be his last marriage.
"I was extremely nervous. I was terrified of falling in love, but I knew it would be my last. It had better be. I'm content, "He told the New York Post about it.
Murdoch's empire includes Fox News in the United States and the rightwing tabloid the Sun in the United Kingdom. He owns the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal, and the publishing house Harper Collins as the CEO of News Corporation.
Murdoch says they are looking forward to "spending the second half of our lives together" as they plan a summer wedding.
Murdoch and Ann Lesley Smith met in September 2022 at his Moraga vineyard in Bel Air, California, at a 200-person event. "I met her and we talked for a while.”I called her two weeks later," Murdoch said, recalling his first meeting with his fiancee.
Murdoch has four marriages and six children from his first three marriages. With his first wife, Patricia Booker, he had Prudence MacLeod, and with his second wife, Anna Mann, he had Lachlan and James.
With his third wife, Wendi Deng, he has two more daughters, Grace and Chloe. Murdoch's fourth wife was ex-supermodel Jerry Hall, with whom he divorced in 2022.
Ann Smith has previously been married twice. Her first marriage, according to the New York Post, was to the Huntington railroad family of San Francisco. She later married Chester Smith, the founder of the Spanish television conglomerate Univision. Smith passed away in 2008.
Ann told the New York Post, "I've been a widow for 14 years. My husband, like Rupert, was a businessman. Worked for local newspapers, created radio and television stations, and promoted Univision. So I'm fluent in Rupert's language. We hold similar beliefs."
She went on to say, "In context, this isn't my first rodeo. Nearing 70 means you're in the home stretch. I waited for the appropriate moment. Friends are delighted for me. It's a gift from God for both of us."
According to the paper, the couple will split their time between California, the United Kingdom, Montana, and New York.
The couple's wedding announcement comes a day before a hearing in Dominion Voting's $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News. According to the technology company, Fox News anchors made false claims that it influenced the 2020 presidential elections, implying that the race was rigged in favour of Joe Biden.
