Digital Desk: The general elections in Pakistan will take place during the final week of January 2024, the election commission in Pakistan declared on Thursday.

The electoral authority announced in a statement that it had evaluated the work on constituency delimitation and that the initial list would be issued on September 27.

The final list will be released on November 30 following consideration of any complaints and suggestions.

Elections will be held in the final week of January 2024, according to the commission.

In Pakistan, general elections are expected to take place 90 days after the National Assembly, which was prematurely dissolved on August 9.

Days before the end of its term, the previous government declared that elections could only be held following a fresh census and the creation of new constituency boundaries.

Since the delimitation procedure would take nearly four months to complete, the decision raised concerns that the elections that were supposed to be held within 90 days might not take place until next year.

The ECP has been under increasing pressure from various political groups to hold elections as soon as possible, which has led to the decision to reduce the delimitation period.

The Constitution further stipulates that the delimitation procedure must be finished within 120 days by the ECP.
