Protecting Human Rights Is More Urgent Than Ever and human rights are non-negotiable...
Digital Desk: Human Rights Day is observed globally every 10th of December with the importance of passing information concerning the rights and freedoms that all individual should enjoy. These rights have to be protected regardless of the subject’s gender, nationality, ethnicity, color, or faith. It is a day to assess global progress and redouble efforts to prevent violations and uphold human rights globally. It is also a plea for action for governments, institutions, and people to be aware of equality justice and human dignity.
The born-in-1948 UDHR is one of the key pillars of the protection of human rights around the world today. This agreement at the time marked the first time the international community set common principles on human rights and remains relevant for the attainment of liberty, equality, and justice for all.
World Human Rights Day was first observed in the year 1950 as a way of marking the UDHR adoption process and mobilizing the international community on the provision of these rights. People must be empowered to be informed of their rights as well as the onus being placed on everyone to fight social, economic, and cultural injustice.
Human Rights Day celebration focuses on a particular theme for a particular year with a view of drawing attention to a specific human rights issue. The theme for 2024, “Equality for All: This report titled “Reducing Inequality and Advancing Human Rights” points out the reality of the problems that exist in terms of inequalities and the importance of working towards the achievement of equality. This year’s theme requires the mobilization of efforts to address inequalities that form barriers to development and decent life for affected people.
The celebration of Human Rights Day serves to remind international society that everyone’s rights must be protected and valued all over the world. Men also know that everyone is working towards bringing the change towards an equal and just society. By joining efforts, we can create a society in which each person will be protected by his or her fundamental rights and dignity, where all people will be equal and humane.
