Hitman Gets Life Sentence For Murder Of 1985 Air India Bombings Suspect

Digital Desk: A hitman who killed one of the two suspects in the 1985 Air India bombings was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday. The 24-year-old Tanner Fox was sentenced by British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Terence Schultes. Tanner with another man Jose Lopez killed Air India bombings suspect Ripudaman Singh Malik in front of a New Westminster courtroom on July 14, 2022.

Tanner Fox and Jose Lopez pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Malik. His associate Jose Lopez will be sentenced on Friday. The court hearing turned out to be an emotional morning following Malik's murder as the room was full of his friends and relatives.

Malik's relatives requested Fox to reveal the names of the people who hired him for the murder. But he did not reveal any names.

Malik was killed more than a decade after he was acquitted in the bombings case which was considered as Canada's deadliest terrorist attack. An Air India Flight 182, flying from Toronto to Mumbai carrying 329 people, blew up off the Irish coast on June 23, 1985. For this attack, Malik and Ajaib Singh Baghri were arrested on the charges of mass murder. However, they were acquitted after the court had ruled that the charges against them were not credible.
