Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan (MMUA) scheme to strengthen women empowerment in the state. He said that after Orunodoi, MMUA would be the biggest scheme for empowering women.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, CM Sarma said that women from both rural and urban areas are eligible for the MMUA scheme. Assam is set to launch a total amount of Rs 3,200 crore for the scheme, giving loans to women at an individual level.
CM Sarma added that earlier women could avail loans for group work by approaching banks but usually not possible to avail loans for personal ventures. But now, the Assam government wishes to give importance to both group and personal ventures, by introducing the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan.
He also said that the eligible women would receive Rs 10,000 in the first installment. Later, they will receive an additional 25,000. In the third year, the government will give women loans of Rs 50,000. Loans up to Rs 85,000 will be provided to the eligible women.
Additionally, wives of Grade III and IV government employees, with no four-wheeler vehicles will be eligible for the scheme.
