Digital Desk: Ivana Trump, Donald Trump's first wife and the mother of his three children passed away on Thursday at the age of 73. 

Donald Trump stated on his social media platform Truth Social that Ivana Trump "passed away at her residence in New York City" without clarifying the cause of death.

"She was a wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a great and inspirational life," said Donald Trump.

"Her pride and joy were her three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric. She was so proud of them, as we were all so proud of her. Rest In Peace, Ivana!" he added in the post.

Ivana Trump, a model who grew up under communist control in the former Czechoslovakia, married Donald Trump, a rising real estate tycoon, in 1977.

Later that year, they welcomed their first child, Donald Jr. Followed by the birth of  Ivanka in 1981, and Eric was in 1984.

On Thursday, Eric Trump paid tribute to his mother, who was a skilled skier during her childhood in Eastern Europe.

"Our mother was an incredible woman — a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend," the post said.

"She will be deeply missed by her mother, three children, and 10 grandchildren," he added.

The Trumps were one of the most well-known couples in New York throughout the '80s, and their opulent way of life perfectly reflected the decade's flashy excesses.

Their influence and popularity expanded as Donald Trump's real estate empire grew, with Ivana Trump taking on a number of key roles in the company.

Their high-profile divorce, which was alleged to be influenced in part by Donald Trump's affair with actress Marla Maples, offered juicy news for New York's tabloids. 

After divorcing his first wife, Ivana Trump, in the early 1990s, Donald Trump married Maples in 1993.

Ivana Trump later enjoyed a prosperous business career of her own, designing garments, jewellery, and beauty goods as well as writing several books.

The relationship between Donald Trump and Maples lasted until 1999. In 2005, he married his third and current wife, Melania Trump.
