Japan to contribute in smart city and 5G projects in India: Nobuhiro Endo

The prime minister will also meet  Japan's Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, on the same day.

Digital Desk: Giving a new dimension to bilateral relationships, the Chairman of NEC Corporation, Nobuhiro Endo, stated on Monday that Japan would contribute to India's smart cities and 5G projects. 

Shortly after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tokyo, Endo stated that PM Modi desired to create and enhance skills. Further,  Endo added that Japan would assist India in developing smart cities.

"From the perspective of smart cities, we can help through applications and can also provide communication platforms such as 5G. All of those problems have previously been addressed," said Dr Nobuhiro Endo, speaking about India's collaboration on smart cities and 5G. 

He also stressed the significance of partnering with Indian telecom companies to deliver India's safe and secure 5G systems. "We need to communicate with India to implement the applications, and we need to confirm security and safety to give 5G systems. As a result, we'll need to work with operators in India to confirm the system's security and safety," he said. 

When asked about increasing capacity and investment in India in many areas due to PM Modi's recent reforms, he responded, "A dialogue about the enhancement itself was required. However, from the standpoint of development, we already have 6000 engineers from India working with us closely. We want to continue working with them on our project."

As per MEA, both leaders highlighted different reforms that are being implemented in India to make it easier to do business, notably in the areas of industrial growth, taxation, and labour. Moreover, they also addressed new and developing technology prospects in India.

PM Modi landed in Tokyo for a two-day visit on the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Prime Minister Modi and other Quad members will attend the third Quad Leaders' Summit in Tokyo on May 24.  The prime minister will also meet  Japan's Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, on the same day.

The meeting with Prime Minister Kishida would allow the two leaders to continue their discussions from the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit in March 2022, when PM Kishida visited India. The PM will attend a business event with Japanese business leaders and connect with the Indian community during his visit.

Further, PM Modi will have a round table with 35 business leaders, said Indian ambassador to Japan Sanjay Kumar Verma.

"We have a round table with roughly 35 business executives, and they are pretty large as organisations. In addition, leaders will meet with the PM personally," he said.
