Who are the Republicans voted against Kash Patel's nomination?
Republicans Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski joined all 47 Democrats in voting no on Patel's nomination.
Earlier, Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) announced that she would vote against the confirmation of Kash Patel.
Patel, the Trump's loyalist and vocally critic of the agency, would take over at a period of tremendous change. Among the new developments abound is the Justice Department's firing of high-ranking FBI officials and a strangely worded query for identifying thousands of agents connected with investigations into the 6th January , 2021 Capitol rioting.
As FBI directors are appointed for a 10-year period to prevent their being independent, Patel has taken over from Christopher Wray, who resigned in advance of President Trump's return to office. Previously, Patel was a federal defender and counterterrorism prosecutor at the Justice Department, garnering the president's attention because of his critical analysis of the FBI's Russia investigation during his time at the House Intelligence Committee. He has served as the Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council (NSC).
