Major Blow For Pakistan: US Temporarily Suspends Foreign Assistance

Digital Desk: The United States has temporarily stopped Pakistan's foreign assistance for re-evaluation through an executive order passed by the newly-elected President Donald Trump. The Geo News reported that an official at the US Consulate in Karachi confirmed the news. This move will halt several important United States Agency For International Development (USAID) projects in debt-ridden Pakistan.

The sudden order has brought a standstill to several Pakistani projects including health, agriculture, and education.

Spokesperson of the US Department of State, Tammy Bruce issued a statement regarding the suspension of financial aid to Pakistan. In his statement, Bruce said, "Consistent with President Trump's Executive Order on Reevaluating and Realigning United States Foreign Aid, Secretary Rubio has paused all US foreign assistance funded by or through the State Department and US Agency for International Development (USAID) for review."

Issuing a statement, the White House said that the halt is for 90 days to review the foreign development assistance programs. This trouble may cause huge economic challenges to the neighboring nation of India as the Pakistani people are struggling to manage their basic needs due to economic hardships, inflation, and unemployment.

According to an earlier report, US officials were monitoring the allegations of the Pakistan government's misuse of a huge amount of flood relief funds.
