Nightlong Clash Between Dhaka University And 7 Colleges: DU Suspends Exams, Classes

Digital Desk: A violent clash erupted in Dhaka between two groups of students on Sunday leaving at least 20 injured, following which Dhaka University suspended all its classes and examinations on Monday. The clash occurred between the students of Dhaka University and seven Dhaka University-affiliated colleges at the Nikhet intersection area. The scuffle allegedly started following a road blockage by the college students who accused the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Mamun Ahmed of being rude to them.

The clash continued for several hours and security personnel had to use batons to disperse the students. Four platoons of the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) along with Dhaka police were deployed to control the violent situation that went on throughout Sunday night.

According to reports, pedestrians and journalists were also injured during the clash. Three of the critically injured are still admitted at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.

Students of seven Dhaka colleges allegedly entered the Dhaka University campus to protest against Prof. Mamun Ahmed which led to a clash with the students of DU. The students from both sides threw bricks and stones at each other.

According to sources, the students of the seven DU-affiliated colleges met Prof. Mamun Ahmed to cross-examine a memorandum they submitted earlier. However, the students alleged that the Pro-Vice Chancellor was rude to them during their discussion, which triggered the college students to protest against him.
