Digital Desk: Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th US President at the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C., on Monday. The much-awaited ceremony was held indoors because of the cold weather. After acquiring the position, President Trump vowed to act swiftly and promised to transform the country.
In his inaugural address, the newly elected President said that the country is facing a 'crisis of trust' and assured restoring its sovereignty and safety. Trump succeeded Joe Biden of the Democratic Party.
Trump called his return a 'golden age' for the United States. He said, "The golden age of America begins right now. From this day forward our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world."
On his return to the White House, he signed a series of executive orders including an order to pull the US from WHO, forgiving around 1600 Capitol rioters, giving a grace period of 75 days to TikTok, etc.
Trump also declared a national emergency at the US-Mexico border, renamed the Gulf of Mexico as the 'Gulf of America', promised to impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico from February, ordered flags to fly at full height on future Inauguration events, among others.
Bidding farewell to his presidency, Joe Biden, the 46th President of the US addressed supporters and said that they would not continue their fights. He also issued a series of presidential pardons before leaving his position, setting a great example for any president.
Trump's oath-taking ceremony was attended by several world leaders and global business icons. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented India, while Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani also attended the ceremony.
