Digital Desk: The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky turned into a heated argument at the White House on Friday. US Vice-President JD Vance was also present during the fiery argument in front of diplomats and US and international media. The two US leaders accused Zelensky of not being thankful and disrespecting their country during the spat.
Reports suggest that the Ukrainian delegation was then asked to leave the White House with the formal lunch with the President remaining untouched.
However, the meeting started with handshakes and smiles between the leaders from both sides but soon became bitter when US Vice-President Vance intervened.
The first 30 minutes of the meeting were pleasant as it saw cordial talks between the leaders. The situation started to turn ugly when Trump started blaming Ukraine for the Russia-Ukraine war.
The situation worsened when Vance said that he was referring to the kind of diplomacy that could save Ukraine from destruction.
This statement from Vance triggered Zelensky and he argued that Putin was never reliable and pointed to the ceasefire deal of 2015.
The meeting ended without further discussions as Zelensky left the White House.
After the argument, Trump posted on X, "I don't want advantage. I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for peace."
Zelensky, who refused to apologize for his argument with the US leaders said, "I am not sure that we did something bad."
However, he expressed his desire to repair the relationship with the US.
