Digital Desk: The US military C-17 transport aircraft carrying 205 illegal Indian immigrants landed in Amritsar on Wednesday afternoon. This is the first batch to deport illegal immigrants to India under the newly-elected President Donald Trump administration. The flight landed at Shri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport on Wednesday, carrying 30 deportees from Punjab and others from neighbouring states.
The deportation was completed amid tight security by Punjab Police. As part of the security measure, airport authorities and Punjab police officers held a meeting and barricaded the cargo gate and another entry point at the airport. The aircraft carrying 205 Indians took off from San Antonio and departed for India on Tuesday.
The deportees will now undergo verification of their documents and be allowed to leave the airport. Trump's government has already deported illegal immigrants to Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras using military aircraft.
