Digital Desk: A lady who mentioned “sex work” on her public LinkedIn profile has created a stir on the Microsoft-owned social networking site. The woman, Arielle Egozi, has stated on her LinkedIn profile that she is self-employed doing sex work from September 2020 to the present. Moreover, Egozi is a founding member of sex tech, an inclusive network for sex-positive women working to improve the sex tech sector.
Egozi has more than 9,000 followers on LinkedIn. She has recently shared a post describing her decision to add “sex work” to her LinkedIn profile. While the message has gone viral online, it has also drawn criticism for the bravery it displays.
So far, more than 9,000 people have already reacted to it, and almost 1600 have commented on her LinkedIn post. Moreover, more than 100 LinkedIn users have shared the post. Many users praised her in the comments section for doing what gives her the most power.
She stated in her post that she quit an in-house job with expensive benefits for sex work, adding, “I had just enough saved from selling and engaging my image that I could question myself if I was happy. Not me. Yes, the few thousand dollars I saved over the years was helpful, but the main reason I was able to leave was that sex work had shown me what my power could accomplish when I used it purposefully. I impose exorbitant fees.”
Further, Egozi said that she doesn’t mind accepting rejection from people who don’t want to pay because she already charges for the emotional labour required as part of the fee.
“I establish and uphold limits, and I only interact in productive, fun, and safe ways. Anything less would be a waste of my time. I gave up presenting and haggling. I have nothing to prove. I’ve already put in the work to demonstrate my value,” she added.
Further, she questioned, “Why this was different from other client work?” explaining it, she said, “The answer I come to, again and again, is that it isn’t. So it’s now on my linkedin profile. Because not only is my new criteria for entering creative clients that they are half as respectful, generous, and thankful as the John Does online - but that anyone with whom I collaborate celebrates and accepts every experience as one that I will undoubtedly bring into a project. They don’t have to comprehend it, but they must have the utmost respect for it.”
