Can you change the way your body smells : Check here

Changes in body odour might result from menopausal hot flashes and nocturnal sweats.

Digital Desk: One of the most human things and yet one of the biggest turnoffs is body odour.

We talked to specialists regarding its root causes and whether or not we have any control over them.

Dermatologist and cosmetologist Dr. Shareefa Isa Chause claims that rather than sweat itself, body odour is primarily caused by germs on the skin.

She advises following the fundamentals, such as regularly shaving your body hair and cleaning a more sweaty area with soap and aluminium chloride-containing antiperspirants.

She continues by saying that body hair attracts microorganisms, increasing the possibility of having more body odour.

But in the end, can we alter our sense of smell?

There are certain methods you might decrease the effects of your body odour.

Eat less ginger and garlic since sweat absorbs their odour.

Also to be avoided are coffee and alcohol because they increase sweating.

A balanced diet that includes citrus fruits like oranges can also be beneficial, the expert says.

"Body odour can be produced by a number of causes, such as a decrease in oestrogen during the menstrual cycle, puberty, or during pregnancy," explains Dr. Sayali Dhake, endocrinologist at SRV Mamta Hospital.

Changes in body odour might result from menopausal hot flashes and nocturnal sweats.

The secret to reducing body odour at these periods is to try to take the best possible care of oneself.

So, even if you can't completely control how you smell, you can modify it to some level and even slightly change it by taking care.

You can also "wear clothing made from breathable fibres such as cotton, silk, or wool and wash items after each wear," according to Harvard Health Publishing.

Wearing nylon or polyester that wicks away perspiration while exercise may be preferable.
