Digital Desk: Heartburn is a burning sensation in your chest, immediately beneath your breastbone. The feeling of discomfort worsens after eating while sleeping, or when leaning over. Did you know that heartburn starts in your food-swallowing tube? However, it tends to spread across your chest and sometimes even into your throat. The burning feeling fluctuates in intensity. Most people can control their heartburn symptoms by changing their lifestyles and taking over-the-counter medications.
Heartburn often intensifies when you lie down, bend over, eat dinner late, or after a very fatty, acidic, or spicy meal. According to Ayurvedic doctor and wellness coach Vara Yanamandra, "Ignoring heartburn for a long time could lead to gastric ulcers and inflammation inside your gut."
5 Ayurvedic Tips To Control Heartburn
1. Honour Your Hunger: Honour Your Hunger: The main cause of heartburn is skipping meals. Eating on time must be your primary concern.
2. Don't Fast: Fasting may cause acidic regurgitation and increase your symptoms. While eating less might work for some people, a total food fast is not advised.
3. Ghee-Rich Diet: Ghee contains pitta-pacifying properties and is high in butyric acid. Add it to the first bite of warm food and watch the magic it does.
4. Stay away: Spicy, fermented foods are acidic by nature and will aggravate your symptoms. Sour foods, such as lemon, may aggravate your throat further.
5. Friendly Antidotes: Coriander water with mishri is a natural antidote that is cooling in nature and soothes the excess acid. Fennel seeds are tasty and soothing to the throat. After each meal, chew a handful.
