Digital Desk: Ayurveda has been a cure for many of our troubles for centuries. Weight management is one such issue that everyone experiences and seeks various solutions to.

Ayurveda recommends following a Sattvic diet, which comprises wholesome foods including fruits, vegetables, nuts, and dairy. Despite its limitations, the Sattvic diet is rich in nutrition, minerals, and proteins that nourish the body.

According to Healthline, the Sattvic diet consists of high-fibre, low-calorie vegetarian food that offers numerous health benefits, including weight loss.

The word "sattvic" refers to "pure essence," which refers to the kind of cuisine that is meant to be balanced, induce calmness, easily digestible, and promote happiness.

As per nutritionists, sattvic diets are linked to a high intake of micronutrients, which promote longevity, strengthen the inner core, and manage mental health.

Animal fats and proteins, such as eggs, fried and processed meals, sugar, coffee, etc. are all prohibited on the Sattvic diet.

Advantages of Eating a Sattvic Diet

    1. Promotes healthy weight loss: A sattvic diet promotes healthy weight loss since it is high in fibre and minerals. According to health experts, persons who follow this dietary pattern had lower BMIs and less body fat than nonvegetarians. This diet's food also has a lower calorie density and is easily absorbed.

    2. Reduces risk of chronic diseases:  According to health experts, a sattvic diet lowers the risk of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and even kidney disease by strengthening the immune system. This diet's meals are high in nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which aid to minimise oxidative stress and keep free radicals at bay. Additionally, a vegetarian diet lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

    3. Boosts mental health: Sattvic diet is usually practised by people who regularly do yoga and other physical exercises.  This diet helps to make the body more flexible and energises the mind. It boosts mental well-being since it makes you feel awake and active. A healthy diet has been shown to promote happiness and calmness in the body and mind.

    4. Improves digestion: Since the sattvic diet emphasises eating wholesome, fresh foods, our daily meals would typically include 50% raw fruits and vegetables. As a result, the body would receive a healthy serving of fibre, which aids in digestion and helps regulate it. Each food piece must be chewed 24 times before being swallowed, according to Ayurveda. This enhances digestion and completes the absorption of nutrients from food.

    5. Detoxifies the body: Sattvic food also aids in detoxification, reducing symptoms such as bloating, headache, skin rashes, lethargy, acne, and nausea. If you are having these symptoms on a regular basis, you should modify your diet and detox your body.
