Brazilian man sets record by working at the same company for 84 years

According to local media, Orthmann began his career on the manufacturing floor at RenauxView, a fabric manufacturer. Soon after, he went into administration, eventually rising to the position of sales manager.

Digital Desk: A 100-year-old man from the southern Brazilian city of Brusque has set a Guinness World Record for the most time spent working for the same company: 84 years.

Despite his amazing achievements, Walter Orthmann's counsel to individuals seeking a long and satisfying working life is surprisingly routine: do what you enjoy and avoid junk food.

"You have to like to work. I started to work with that willingness and fighting spirit," he said in an interview this week. 

"You can't just do any job to say that you are working. That doesn't work. You're not going to be able to stand it."

According to local media, Orthmann began his career on the manufacturing floor at RenauxView, a fabric manufacturer. Soon after, he went into administration, eventually rising to the position of sales manager.

He stretches every day and keeps a close eye on his nutrition to stay sharp.

"I try to avoid salt and sugar," he explained. "I avoid foods that are bad for your intestines. I don't drink Coke or other soft drinks. I only eat foods that are good for you. That significantly contributes to your body's ability to remain strong indefinitely."
