Digital Desk: Police reported on Saturday that as many as 16 people have died as a result of drinking Spurious Liquor in Haryana's Yamunanagar and that seven people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

"16 people have died in this incident," Yamunanagar Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Himadri Kaushik told ANI.

"Six port-mortems have been performed, six bodies have been incinerated without our knowledge, and four post-mortems will be performed," Kaushik added.

"We have arrested and remanded seven people in connection with this case." "We will conduct additional investigations and arrest those involved in this case," she stated.

She further stated that they were telling the villagers about the occurrence and advising them not to consume spirits from unlicensed establishments. "We are also going to various villages and requesting people not to consume such liquors they have got from unknown sources," Kaushik was quoted as saying.

Yamunanagar police have launched an investigation into the incident. Earlier on Friday, the Yamunanagar SP stated that the case began after the police received information that a young man had died after ingesting alcohol.

SP Yamunanagar "In the afternoon, we received information that a youth had died after consuming alcohol," Ganga Ram Punia said on Wednesday.

Following this information, the team arrived and spoke with the concerned doctor and relatives.

The accused has been charged under sections 308, 302, and 120 (B), as well as parts of the Punjab Excise (Haryana Amendment Bill), the Punjab Excise Act, and the Copyright Act, according to the SP.

According to SP Punia, the teams also collected empty bottles and other evidence from the deceased's home in the villages.

Meanwhile, Champa Devi, one of the deceased's wives, stated on Thursday, "My husband, Suresh Kumar, passed away after consuming liquor. I'm not sure where he drank the liquor. Six persons have been killed. The perpetrators must be punished."
