Digital Desk: In yet another success for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Aaley Mohammad Iqbal was elected as the new Deputy Mayor of Delhi on Wednesday.
According to sources, Aaley Md Iqbal of the Aam Aadmi Party received 147 votes, while Kamal Bagri of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received 116 votes. A total of 265 votes were cast for the position of Delhi deputy mayor, with two votes being invalid.
"Congratulations to Aaley Mohammad Iqbal, who was chosen as the Aam Aadmi Party's Deputy Mayor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The BJP, the Central Government, and even the L-G all went against the constitution and attempted to stop it, but it was done by the people of Delhi "Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, tweeted.
The Civic Centre hosted the election of Delhi's new deputy mayor.
Iqbal's victory came just hours after Shelly Oberoi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) defeated the BJP's Rekha Gupta in the mayoral polls.
The Delhi civic body made its fourth effort today to elect a mayor and deputy mayor. The previous three elections were called off due to a quarrel about voting rights for nominated members.
