Digital Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will preside over an all-party meeting in the national capital today to discuss the situation in Manipur. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

As incidents like arson have continued in Manipur since May 3, the state government has extended the internet ban for five more days, till June 25, with immediate effect, in an effort to prevent any further disruptions to peace.

In light of the ongoing instability in the state, data services have also been banned.

Conflicts that broke out during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest the listing of Meiteis on the Scheduled Tribes (ST) list led to violence on May 3.

Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi stated that the unprecedented violence in Manipur has "left a deep wound in the mind of our nation," while calling for peace and harmony in the state.

Questioning the timing of the all-party meeting called by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on June 24 to discuss the current situation in Manipur in the aftermath of ethnic violence and clashes, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated that it is being held at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a State visit to the United States, meaning that the meeting is unimportant to him.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "Manipur has been burning for 50 days, but the Prime Minister remained silent. An all-party meeting was called when the Prime Minister himself is not in the country! Clearly, this meeting is not important for the Prime Minister."

Meanwhile, Congress leader KC Venugopal slammed PM Modi on Thursday for being silent on the situation in Manipur."Manipur has been burning for the past 53 days. Prime Minister Modi is still silent. "A delegation from Manipur was here for the last ten days, but the PM was not ready to meet them," Mr Venugopal stated.
