Digital Desk: A close associate of fugitive radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh, Papalpreet Singh, was flown to Dibrugarh on Tuesday (April 11, 2023). Reportedly, a team of Punjab Police will be reaching Dibrugarh with him by Vistara flight at around 12 noon today.
Papalpreet addressed the media briefly at Amritsar's Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport early Tuesday, refuting rumours of his surrender. "My spirits are high. I was arrested yesterday, as the police said," he said.
Under the National Security Act, the Amritsar Rural Police apprehended Papalpreet from Kathunangal in Punjab's Amritsar district on Monday. Six more cases were also filed against him.
Papalpreet and Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal had been on the run since March 18 following a police operation on the organization, and images of the two evading the police circulated on social media last month.
A delegation from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) met the members of the Waris Punjab De, who are currently imprisoned in Assam's Dibrugarh Prison, on Monday. Papalpreet will be the ninth Waris Punjab De prisoner at the Dibrugarh jail.
