Digital Desk: The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, Asia's largest tulip garden, opened on Sunday (March 19) for visitors to appreciate the lovely flowers.
The garden, which is located in Srinagar between Dal Lake and the Zabarwan hills, includes about 1.5 million (15 lakhs) tulips of all shades and tints.
Aside from a beautiful display of tulips, the garden, originally known as Siraj Bagh, also features hyacinths, daffodils, muscari, and cyclamens.
"Preparations including gardening, engineering, fungal treatment, fertiliser spraying, and minor repair that we undertake before the tulip exhibition are going on," said Inam-ul-Rehman, who is in charge of the garden.
Hundreds of gardeners laboured tirelessly to prepare the garden for its grand opening on Sunday.
Although the tulip blooms are only on the show for three to five days, the ground staff works hard all year to guarantee that the quality of the bulbs is maintained year after year, according to the in-charge.
According to Srinagar's tourist website, the garden was established in 2007 to promote floriculture and tourism in the Kashmir Valley. It is terraced on sloping land and consists of seven terraces. The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden covers 30 hectares.

Distance Via car: The garden is located 8 kilometres from Lalchowk in Srinagar.
The tulip festival is an annual celebration that attempts to highlight the variety of tulips in the garden as part of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir's tourist efforts. It is also held every year at the start of the spring season.
