Assam-Mizoram Border dispute is an 'age old' dispute, says Union Minister of State for Home Affairs

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing turmoil between Assam and Mizoram over border issues, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni termed it an ‘old dispute’ that is going on for ages. Teni also stated that Mizoram police registering a case against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in this matter is a ‘normal thing’.

Assuring that the dispute to end soon, Teni said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah is supervising the matter very closely.

Addressing the Media persons, Teni said, “Inter-state border dispute is an old dispute. PM Modi and Amit Shah are constantly examining the situation and are trying to fix it as soon as possible.”

“The case which has been registered against Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in connection to the Assam-Mizoram Border dispute is a normal thing.” added the Union Minister.

On Friday, the police informed an FIR has been filed against the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with four senior police officials of Assam.

The reaction comes after the violent clash at Lailapur in Assam-Mizoram border, which took the lives of 6 police personnel and one civilian and injuring more than 65.

Reacting to the report of FIR, which was filed against the Assam CM along with six officials in Kolasib district of Mizoram CM Sarma, asked why the case was not handed over to a neutral agency as the incident took place within the constitutional boundaries of Assam. Moreover, the Assam CM added already  that he had a talk with Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga about this issue.

CM Sarma took to Twitter and wrote, “Will be happy to join in any investigation. But why the case is not being handed over to a neutral agency, especially when the parable of occurrence is well within the constitutional territory of Assam? Have already conveyed this to @ZoramthangaCMji,”

Reportedly, the Assam-Mizoram border issue will be raised in Parliament by the BJP MPs from Assam on Monday. As per the source, the MPs can raise the issue under Rule 377 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business on Lok Sabha.
