AAP's Atishi hospitalized after health declines during indefinite hunger strike over Delhi water crisis

Digital Desk: Delhi Minister Atishi was admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital on early Tuesday after her health deteriorated during an ongoing hunger strike. Atishi's protest, now in its fifth day, is aimed at pressuring the Haryana government to release Delhi's allocated 100 million gallons per day (MGD) of water.

Starting her hunger strike on June 22, Atishi demands that Haryana honor Delhi's water rights. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) reported a severe decline in her health, including dangerously low blood pressure and sugar levels, prompting doctors to advise hospitalization.

Despite being hospitalized, Atishi remains steadfast in her protest, pledging to continue until Haryana fulfills its obligations to open the Hathnikund Barrage gates. The AAP stressed that Atishi's struggle is on behalf of 28 lakh Delhiites, risking her life for their access to water.

The water crisis in Delhi has worsened amid soaring temperatures and heatwaves. The AAP blames Haryana's reduced daily water supply for exacerbating the situation, forcing many Delhi residents to rely on water tankers. Scenes of people awaiting tankers have become commonplace across the city this summer.
