BJP MLA from Tripura Shaves off Head; Quits Party

Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party's MLA from Tripura's Surma Constituency Ashish Das shaved off his head at the Kolkata's Kalighat Kali Temple on Tuesday as a mark of reparation of joining the BJP party. He announced that he would leave the BJP party soon.

Indicating that he would join Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the coming days, Das said, "More BJP MLAs may leave the party in the coming days."

Moreover, Das citing his reasons for leaving the BJP party, claimed that BJP is promoting political anarchy in Tripura for which people are unsatisfied with the state government.

"I shaved off my hair as compensation for the misrule of the BJP government. So I am leaving the party and will tell what my next step will be. The type of anarchy and misrule the people of Tripura is witnessing under the BJP rule has moved me and that is the reason I have been a critic of all those wrong deeds and I have been working for the people beyond the party politics." said Das.

"We unknowingly committed a mistake by thinking that Narendra Modi led BJP government could protect us from the misrule of the last government that ruled for 25 years." added Das.

Reportedly, BJP is planning to take disciplinary actions against Das.

Notably, this move by MLA Ashish Das came as a fresh jolt to the BJP in Tripura ahead of the state assembly elections scheduled to be held in 2023.
