Digital Desk: Shahnawaz Hussain, a BJP politician, encountered a cardiac arrest and was taken to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai earlier this evening.

Shahnawaz is a BJP national spokesperson. During the Atal Bihari Vajpayee administration, he served as Minister of Textiles and Civil Aviation.

"Shahnawaz Hussain was admitted to Lilavati Hospital after suffering a heart attack." Angioplasty was performed," stated Jaleel Parkar of Lilavati Hospital.

Shahnawaz Hussain aged 54 received the treatment after "showing the evolution of a heart attack," according to Dr Jalil Parkar, the senior physician at Lilavati Hospital. Angioplasty is a surgical treatment used to unblock restricted or obstructed blood arteries that deliver blood to the heart.

"Around 4.30 p.m., Hussain complained of elevated blood pressure. Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar summoned me to Lilavati Hospital, where Hussain was being treated for a heart attack. Angioplasty was performed on him by cardiologist Suresh Vijan," stated Dr Parkar. He also added that his heart muscle was undamaged.
